Diving and Snorkelling
Milne Bay is a world-reknowned diving location, home to stunning reefs with low commercial pressures.

Milne Bay is a home for muck diving, WWII plane wreckages and stunning sea life such as manta rays, whale sharks and nautilus.
There are operators that specialise in scuba-diving or private small boats are happy to take you out for the day to snorkel and picnic on one of the surrounding islands.

Fishing
Milne Bay is a prime fishing destination home to some of the biggest, meanest pelagic species.
The waters around Milne Bay are littered with reefs and rivers where the locals know where to find you your next trophy.
There are charters available from high-end to booking a local operator for the day out. Make sure to check with your accommodation provider on a suitable operator to take you out for a fish.

Island-hopping
Milne Bay is surrounded by islands with diverse cultures and landscapes. From tiny uninhabited attols, to large volcanic islands with thousands of people.
Local operators can take you out to the islands and will often have connections to the islands that they visit.

East Cape
This community marks the farthest point in Papua New Guinea reachable by road, allowing visitors to experience a lively market where nearby come together to exchange their goods.
Passenger motor vehicles (PMV's) travel to East Cape multiple times per day (except Sundays), or arrange a private drive to the 'tip of PNG'.

Skull Caves
Before the introduction of churches, our ancestors buried their dead by leaving their skulls in large caves. Strange for some, but interesting for those wanting to learn more about the unique cultural practices of Milne Bay.
Check with your local accommodations provider for recommendations on skull tour operators.

Immerse Yourself in Culture
The best part of visiting Milne Bay (and PNG) is the hospitality and friendliness of its people. Many villages are happy to have you as a guest, as long as you are respectful. Spend enough time in the country and you will see an unrivalled diversity of culture.
There are a number of guesthouses and village stays in the area or speak to your accommodation-provider on finding out ways to immerse yourself in the Milne Bay culture.
